Reflecting on the old year to gain Insights about the New Year
For the first time in history, online advertising had surpassed print in 2010, just as predicted in research by Outsell earlier in the year.
The spending on Internet marketing campaigns has finally exceeded print ad campaigns.
It's 2010, and the same old mistakes have been popping up since 1996. Although there's been massive improvement in web design overall (check out the Way Back Machine for screenshots of how web sites looked in the past), we still see the following issues on a regular basis:
Don't clutter your page with flash, animation, and sound effects. Keep the focus on the content, and pick a single unique component that adds flare to make your page stand out.
Do keep the link hierarchy as small and simple as possible. Create optimal page categories with priority access to the most important content. (ie. Don't make user click 10 times to reach the telephone number)
